The event will see choir members join forces with volunteers from some of Australia’s leading businesses and community choirs to raise awareness and funds for people experiencing homelessness, hardship and isolation.

Organisers hope to raise $50,000 to continue the choir’s outreach, which provides not only music and friendship but also access to housing, food packages, legal aid and social welfare support.

The concert comes at a time when loneliness and social isolation are increasingly recognised as critical public health challenges, with one in four Australians affected. Those already facing unemployment, chronic illness, financial stress or the breakdown of close relationships are among the most at risk.

Audiences at Martin Place can expect an uplifting program of music and storytelling, designed to spread joy and highlight the resilience of people supported by the choir. The event will feature an opening address by Cr Jess Miller.

Since its founding in 2001 by Jonathon Welch AM, the group has grown into Australia’s longest-running choir of its kind, offering a unique space for connection, confidence and creativity for those who have experienced disadvantage. The group performs regularly across the country — from the Northern Territory to Tasmania, Melbourne and regional NSW — and has become a vital part of Sydney’s cultural and social fabric.

The choir is built on the belief that music can inspire hope and change lives. Beyond its weekly rehearsals and performances, the program provides members with practical support such as welfare assistance, food packages and connections to housing and legal services, creating a bridge between music and meaningful community care.
